TODAY'S IDIOM: BLOW SOMETHING OUT OF (ALL) PROPORTION

"BLOW SOMETHING OUT OF (ALL) PROPORTION"

To behave as if something that has happened is much worse than it really is.

Example: They had a minor argument in a restaurant but the press have blown it out of all proportion, speculating about divorce.

Exagerar.

Example sentences:

  • Sure,it  seems to be a problem but don't blow it out of proportion / Claro, parece ser un problema, pero no exageres.

  • Children tend to blow things out of proportion / Los niños tienden a exagerar las cosas.

Additional examples:

  • The problem was very small but the manager blew it out of all proportion.

  • It's ridiculous. We have a tiny disagreement and you blow the whole thing out of proportion!

NO CONFUNDIR CON:

Blow someone or something out of the water; que significa: destruir o terminar con algo completamente.

  • The boss blew the whole idea out of the water.
