PEB TEST - Estableciendo un nuevo estándar para evaluar la comunicación real en inglés empresarial. 

En nuestro entorno, muchas empresas no cuentan con herramientas confiables para medir la comunicación práctica en inglés de sus empleados.  Cada empresa cubre este requisito como mejor puede… algunas dependen de sus propios empleados extranjeros que entrevistan a los candidatos; otras confían en los resultados de algún examen de medición de suficiencia de inglés como lengua extranjera; otras más exigen un porcentaje de dominio del idioma y simplemente confían en lo que la persona declara que comunica en inglés.

En cualquier caso, no cuentan con una medición estandarizada que indique con claridad lo que cada persona puede comunicar en inglés dentro del ambiente de trabajo y se contrata o promueve al personal sin asegurarse de tener cubierta esta competencia. Posteriormente se “descubre” que la persona no se comunica en inglés ya estando en escenarios reales: reuniones, viajes, entrenamientos, etc., provocando errores y problemas que algunas veces resultan ser muy costosos.

Said to emphasize that many bad things might happen before something is finished.

Example: On the side of the beer mug were these words: There's many a slip twixt the cup and the lip. 

Del plato a la boca se pierde la sopa.

Example sentences:

• We still might finish in time for the deadline, but there's many a slip twixt cup and lip / Todavía podría terminar a tiempo para la fecha límite, pero del plato a la boca se pierde la sopa.

• They thought they had the contract all sewn up, but the client didn't sign in the end. There's many a slip twixt cup and lip / Ellos pensaban que tenían el contrato asegurado, pero el cliente no firmó al final. Del plato a la boca se pierde la sopa.

"WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND"

The results of things that one has done will someday have an effect on the person who started the events. 

Example: I knew if I helped her now, she would help me later what goes around comes around.

Se cosecha lo que se siembra.

Example sentences:

• So he finally gets to see the results of his activities, what goes around, comes around. Now he is the victim of his own policies / Así que finalmente llega a ver los resultados de sus actividades, se cosecha lo que se siembra. Ahora él es la víctima de sus propias políticas.

• He lied to his girlfriend for years; now she is lying to him. What comes around goes around / Le mintió a su novia desde hace años; ahora ella le está mintiendo. Se cosecha lo que se siembra.

TODAY'S IDIOM: WHEN THERE'S A WILL, THERE'S A WAY

"WHEN THERE'S A WILL, THERE'S A WAY

Used to mean that if you are determined enough, you can find a way to achieve what you want, even if it is very difficult.

Example: We are beginning to get some idea of local needs, the sorts of things that are lacking in human and material terms, and we are thinking that, where there's a will there's a way.

Querer es poder.

Example sentences:

• I don't quite know how I'm going to get to London with no money, but where there's a will there's a way! / No se muy bien como llegar a Londres sin dinero, pero querer es poder!

• Max has no idea of how to get the money to repair his boat, but where there's a will, there's a way / Max no tiene idea de como conseguir dinero para reparar su barco, pero querer es poder.

If it looks like something is wrong, something probably is wrong.

Example: The normally boisterous children were unusually quite when father came home. Something must be wrong he thought, where there's smoke there's fire. Then he found out that they broke the window.

Si el río suena, es porque agua lleva.

Example sentences:

• People like to think where there's smoke, there's fire, so they will always believe you were involved even if you weren't. / La gente piensa que si el río suena, es porque agua lleva, entonces siempre pensarán que tu estuviste involucrado incluso si no lo estuviste.

• I'm going to withdraw all my money from that bank. I read an article that the bank was in financial trouble, and where there's smoke there's fire / Voy a retirar todo mi dinero de ese banco. Leí un artículo en el que el banco estaba en problemas financieros y si el río suena, e sporque agua lleva.

Example sentences:

• What time are we going fishing tomorrow. 4 a.m. What? Why so early? The early bird catches the worm / ¿A qué hora iremos a pescar mañana? 4 a.m ¿Qué? ¿Porqué tan temprano? Al que madruga Dios lo ayuda.

• Ronaldo always wakes up at 6 a.m. to go to the gym, have a big breakfast, and then go to work. This impressed his boss, so he got a promotion. The early bird catches the worm! / Ronaldo siempre se despierta a las 6 a.m. para ir al gimnasio, tomar un desayuno grande, y luego ir a trabajar. It is often better to say nothing than to talk, so silence is golden.

Example: Don't tell anyone else about it, silence is golden.

If you do not take risks, you will never accomplish anything. 

Example: Should I ask my boss for a promotion? Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

• Are you going to go to Law school? No, I don’t think so, It’s too expensive and I think it’s too difficult. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. "IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN"

You can always learn something new.

Example:

Alan: Help me make the salad dressing. 

Jane: But I don't know anything about making salad dressing. 

Alan: You are never too old to learn, grandma decided to take a course in using computers. It's never too late to learn, she said.

Nunca es tarde para aprender.

Example sentences:

• It is never too late to learn English! / ¡Nunca es tarde para aprender Inglés!

• It's never too late to learn something new; no matter what your interests or aspirations may be, there are courses on offer that could change your life for the better / Nunca es demasiado tarde para aprender algo nuevo, no importa cuales sean tus intereses o aspiraciones, hay cursos que se ofrecen que pueden cambiar tu vida para mejorar.
